Introduction
A great choice for any character with decent Charisma, Purple Dragon Rook offers an extra Face skill and an easy way to give your party Heroic Inspiration.
It’s a great choice for characters like Bards and Paladins, though the Purple Dragon Squire Background may limit your options unless you get Purple Dragon Rook from another source, such as playing a Human.
Purple Dragon Rook is required for Purple Dragon Commandant.
Entreat
An additional skill proficiency is great. All three skills are Face skills, making this an easy choice for high-Charisma characters.
You only get to pick from three options, so check for redundancy with your Background and with your class’s skill choices. This is especially important if you get Purple Dragon Rook from the Purple Dragon Squire Background, which provides proficiency in Insight. At that point you’re basically locked into Persuasion.
Rallying Cry
This is such as an easy source of Heroic Inspiration that it makes anything else underwhelming. Your party can start any encounter with Heroic Inspiration, giving you insurance against bad rolls. This is only usable once per Long Rest, but that’s still very impactful.
This combines very nicely with Zhentarim Ruffian feat’s Family First feature, allowing you to grant inspiration to an ally, then have them spend it to give the whole party Advantage on their Initiative rolls.
