While it physically pains me to write this, Wizards are, even noticeably more than in the tabletop game, simply the best class in the game. The arcane spell selection remains full of excellent utility and powerful combat options, and the mechanical changes to spellcasting in general turns the Wizard’s power level up to 11. Just as in the tabletop version, there are a ton of spells at every level to choose from, and, while Wizards can potentially learn all of them in Baldur’s Gate 3 (even cantrips!), there will still be a limited number you can prepare at any one time.
This article presents commentary on each spell at every level as well as giving you a feel for what I recommend be an overall Wizard build to maximize damage output. A hint: your Wizard should be responsible for a minimum of 4 turns each round at level 11+.
