What do you think about using Dragonborn as a Race with “Dragon Fear” Feat to gain another way to frighten your enemies?
It could work, but not as well as Form of Dread. The Paladin is really MAD so it’s often difficult to make room for feats, and giving up the Variant Human’s feat makes that cost worse because you’re both giving up a free feat and adding a feat to the build. Dragon Fear also allows the target to repeat their save when they take damage, which disincentives attacking the target. Finally, the Short Rest reset on the Dragonborn’s breath weapon means that you get it 1 to 3 times per day depending on how often your DM allows a Short Rest, while Form of Dread will work 2 to 6 times based solely on your proficiency bonus, which will naturally scale regardless of the pacing of your game.
You are not using “wrathful smite”?
that spell is criminally underrated as it is properly the best single target cc in the game espeacially in the hand of an oath of conquest.
as the enemy need to make a wisdom CHECK to get you of it as an action, which they are doing at disadvantage because they are frightened.
I rate Wrathful Smite blue in the Paladin Spell List Breakdown for a reason. It’s a really good spell. But you’re right, we overlooked it in this one. We’ll make some additions.
