We’ve all been there: a new party is forming, you’re going to be a player in it, and immediately you’re faced with analysis paralysis. With over a hundred subclasses total (not even getting into multiclassing) of just first-party content, deciding what you’re going to play can be a daunting task, even if you’re already very familiar with our content and confident in your ability to optimize whatever you decide to pilot. The good news is that I see analysis paralysis as a personal enemy, and I would like to eliminate it for you. To that end, I wrote an article that helps you optimize how to think about picking your next build so that you can be most effective in the party that already exists, or provide a large amount of coverage to facilitate whatever highly specialized niche characters everyone else ends up picking.
Enjoy!
What happens when you roll stats in a campaign and roll very low stats across the board? Right now, I’m playing a character that rolled a highest of 11 and an average of 9 for other stats. The best I could figure out was a support bard but I haven’t been doing much of anything at all.
Wow, that is rough. The rules for rolling stats in previous editions allowed you to reroll if you didn’t have at least one ability score at 14 or higher. I think going for a support caster (bard, cleric, druid, etc.) was your best bet. Circle of the Moon Druid doesn’t depend heavily on your own stats, so that’s also a good option.
