The Hobgoblin got a big rewrite in Monsters of the Multiverse, and I really think that they needed. With the custom origin rules in place, the Hobgoblin filled a tiny niche between races that provide medium armor proficiency (githyanki, mountain dwarf) and the Variant Human with the Lucky feat, so it’s really difficult to find a class that’s actually appealing on the previous version of the Hobgoblin. The new version is more broadly useful, but they’re defined by their new Fey Gift trait which encourages you to play a front-line martial character.
I hadn’t updated the Hobgoblin Handbook since the release of Tasha’s, so this is another big update.
