DnD 5e – Updated Practical Guide to Mounted Combat

I complain about 5e’s mounted combat quite a bit, but once you resolve my biggest pain point (where am I in relation to my horse?), there’s a lot of fun to be had riding around on various critters. To that end, I wrote the Practical Guide to Mounted Combat a while ago to highlight and address the rules challenges and to offer some optimization advice on how to make it work for your character.

I’ve revisited the Practical Guide to Mounted Combat, made some improvements, and added a whole new section on mount options. There may be more updates after today’s Dragonlance release, but if you’re dreaming to play a knight on horseback (or an archer on horseback, or a wizard who rides a puppy), I think you’ll enjoy this.
