The 2014 #dnd rules are a more mature, stable system. The 2024 rules have some good ideas, but need refinement and they need to replace a bunch of systems that they removed from the DMG, which I hope will happen over the next year or two. #dnd5e #2024dnd #ttrpg #dungeonsanddragons #dmadvice

do I prefer the 2014 or 2024 D&D 5e
0:04
rules that's a good question and it's
0:05
kind of hard to answer the 2024 rules
0:08
made some really good improvements to
0:10
the system they did a lot of things to
0:12
improve class balance they did a lot of
0:14
things to advance and improve the design
0:16
of character options that I am really
0:18
really excited about that I like a lot
0:21
and overall I do think there's a lot of
0:23
things in the system that are going to
0:24
be a lot more fun that are going to be a
0:26
lot smoother that work a lot better
0:28
however the initial publication of the
0:30
2024 rules came with a lot of steps back
0:33
a lot of really unclear rules a lot of
0:35
things that people had been complaining
0:37
about and pointing to for the duration
0:39
of the 1D and D play test that were just
0:42
never addressed for whatever reason and
0:44
then when we finally got all three of
0:45
the core rule books there was some
0:47
pretty glaring and obvious errors so it
0:49
was in a really really rough state
0:51
initially and people have rightly
0:53
compared that to when the original 5e
0:56
rules launched they were they were
0:57
pretty rough at the beginning too but
0:59
the difference between the 2014 and 2024
1:02
rules is the 2024 rules are an update to
1:05
the 2014 rules so we already had a
1:08
decade of learning and refinement to
1:10
work from so in a lot of ways like those
1:13
back steps those very clear misses
1:16
especially with loud community feedback
1:18
about them were considered and
1:20
especially with community feedback about
1:22
them are kind of unacceptable so it is
1:25
really frustrating that we got such a
1:28
shoddy initial release of the 2024 rules
1:31
i'm excited that we got Arata to fix
1:34
some of the biggest issues to fix some
1:37
of the most problematic things in the
1:39
system but I do still think that there
1:42
need to be some improvements to the 2024
1:44
rules before I think it's an easy and
1:46
obvious transition so right now if
1:49
you're playing the 2014 rules if you
1:51
have a longunning campaign stick to it
1:53
do what makes you happy if you're
1:55
excited about specific things in the
1:57
2024 rules sure make the jump maybe
2:00
start your next game in the 2024 rules
2:03
but unless you're really excited about
2:05
things in the 2024 rules I'd say give it
2:07
another year wait for a second round of
2:09
Arata and hopefully we'll see some
2:11
really good improvements i know a lot of
2:13
the source books coming out later this
2:15
year have some really exciting content
2:16
in them that I'm really looking forward
2:18
to so it's possible that So it's
2:21
possible that the additions in those
2:23
books are going to make this a really
2:24
much more mature and stable system and
2:27
I'm excited to see what we
