all right let's talk about Stealth in
0:02
DND so in the 2014 rules which is
0:05
probably what most of you are familiar
0:07
stealth is actually pretty simple when
0:09
you want to hide you make a dexterity
0:11
stealth check um to hide from other
0:14
creatures they need to not be able to
0:17
see you now that like the rules
0:19
specifically say creature can't see you
0:22
so it's a little bit vague but if you
0:24
have total cover if you have if you are
0:26
heavily obscured such as like heavy fog
0:28
or you're in darkness or you're
0:30
invisible you are hidden enough that you
0:33
can hide now your DM might let you hide
0:36
if you duck behind half cover or
0:38
something like that but it is
0:39
intentionally vague and it leaves it up
0:42
to the DM and the players to figure out
0:44
when is an appropriate time for a
0:46
character to be able to hide when you
0:48
make that stealth check you then compare
0:50
that to the passive perceptions of every
0:52
creature who might be able to see you if
0:55
you roll above everyone's passive
0:57
perception you are hidden if certain
1:00
creatures can see you others can't like
1:02
you may be hidden to some creatures but
1:04
not to others so it's like one to many
1:08
it's a little complicated to track but
1:09
generally your DM is just going be like
1:11
yeah you are hidden uh and if if you
1:15
remain hidden and other creatures need
1:17
to find you they need to as an action
1:20
make a perception check to look for you
1:22
so being hidden can be very very
1:24
powerful in 2014 the 2024 rules made
1:27
some kind of big changes to how Stu
1:29
stealth works it is more explicit and
1:32
clear in how it works so there's less of
1:34
that like hey DM can I hide behind this
1:37
low wall there's less of that but it's
1:39
still a little odd so in the 2024 rules
1:43
you still make that same dexterity
1:45
stealth check but there is a base DC of
1:49
15 no matter what you have to roll at
1:52
least a 15 on your check to successfully
1:55
hide uh even if you are hiding from a
1:58
blind person plugging their ears and
2:01
screaming you still have to roll 15 to
2:04
height successfully uh and you must also
2:07
be behind 3/4 or total cover or be
2:11
heavily obscured which again is heavy
2:14
fog darkness something like that once
2:17
you've met the conditions you've passed
2:18
that dc15 you then also compare your
2:21
stealth check to the passive perception
2:23
of creatures around you and you also
2:26
have to break line of sight so uh again
2:30
requirements dc15 stealth check uh
2:33
adequate cover or heavily obscured and
2:35
you must break line of sight then you
2:37
can hide assuming you pass the check
2:40
successfully you then gain the invisible
2:42
condition so we've gone from in like
2:45
every previous edition of D and D where
2:47
sneaking was sneaking but it wasn't like
2:50
I crouch down and I turn invisible like
2:52
a video game now in 20124 you crouch
2:55
down and you turn invisible like it's a
2:57
video game
