The RPGBOT team is small, but does great work, including editing the absolute crimes against literature that I produce without their help. 95% of the content on the site is my writing, but I still consider it a team effort because having support has made our content so much better!

there's two questions in this comment
0:01
and I'm going to try to answer both So
0:03
the first question is how large is the
0:06
RPGbot team specifically the folks
0:08
working on the 5e content and the second
0:11
question is just more of an explanation
0:14
on how we rate different character
0:17
options So first question is actually
0:19
pretty simple The RPGbot team is pretty
0:21
small Um and it's it's really just my
0:24
friends who I've picked up over time uh
0:27
folks who I've been doing character
0:28
optimization with for years Random and
0:31
Roco are two of our most prominent
0:33
writers other than me and they've
0:35
written some absolutely great subclass
0:37
handbooks Um Ash and Randall my podcast
0:41
co-hosts they also do some writing for
0:42
the site occasionally but not not a ton
0:45
honestly Uh like 95% of the content on
0:49
the site if if you go by word count or
0:51
page count or whatever is just me So the
0:55
vast majority of the time what you're
0:56
reading on the site is me But any
0:58
article you go to there's an author by
1:00
line at the top and there's a little
1:02
author blurb down at the bottom so you
1:04
can see who on the team wrote that
1:05
specific page For the ratings on how we
1:08
assess different character options we do
1:10
the four-step rating system and it's
1:12
very intentional So blue is the best
1:14
green is good orange is sometimes good
1:17
red is bad Uh and the reason we don't do
1:20
like five or more tiers is there's very
1:23
intentionally not a middle tier There's
1:25
no just okay It's good or it isn't
1:28
Blu-rated options are things that you're
1:30
going to use frequently and that are
1:31
going to have a good impact on the game
1:33
So fireball is a great example because
1:36
there are a lot of situations in Dn D
1:38
where you have a clustered group of
1:40
enemies that fit within that area and
1:42
you'll be able to do a lot of damage
1:44
with fireball reliably as a result
1:46
Green-rated options are things that will
1:48
be frequently useful but maybe not all
1:50
the time Things that might be useful all
1:53
the time but aren't always having a huge
1:55
impact So like you'll get a lot of value
1:57
out of those green rated options but
1:59
it's not something that you can
2:01
typically build your character around
2:03
and rely on 100% of the time Orangeed
2:06
options are situationally useful That
2:09
doesn't necessarily mean that they're
2:10
bad just that you won't get consistent
2:13
use out of them So these are situational
2:16
utility spells uh abilities that respond
2:18
to specific creature types or specific
2:20
circumstances that don't come up all the
2:22
time Depending on how your character is
2:24
built you may be able to get a lot of
2:26
use out of those orange rated options
2:28
But in a game where you get very very
2:30
few decision points you have to choose
2:32
between something that's going to be
2:33
useful every single time you play or
2:36
something that's going to be useful
2:37
maybe like once every other session And
2:40
given the choice usually you're going to
2:41
go for those higher rated options
2:43
because they'll get more value
2:46
Red-rated options are options that very
2:49
very rarely contribute to the game or
2:51
that when they do contribute to the game
2:53
the impact is
