Pathfinder - How to Play 5 - Equipment

Adventurers make use of a wide variety of items, including weapons, armor, tools, and various trinkets.

Currency

Currency in Pathfinder is very easy. Coins come in four denominations: copper pieces (cp), silver pieces (sp), gold pieces (gp), and platinum pieces (pp). Each denomination is worth 10 of the previous denomination (10 cp = 1 sp, 10 sp = 1 gp, 10 gp = 1 pp). Items are typically list their price in gp, though cheaper items may be listed in cp or sp. 50 coins of any denomination weight one pound, and coins are roughly the size of an American quarter.

Art items and gems have a set gp value, and can be traded for that value in coins. If you GM cares to do so, you may need to use the Appraise skill to make sure that you are getting the right price for these items. Because gems are considerably more valuable for their weight than coins, it can be convenient to carry gems around instead of huge sacks of coins.

Armor and shields

Armor is a critical part of your character's defenses.

Weapons

Weapons are as unique and diverse as the characters who wield them, and your choice of weapons can define how you perform in combat.

Adventuring Gear

When the weapons and armor go away, adventurers turn to other tools to face the many challenges which they face.
